Local:
Odeceixe cute small town close to beach.
North:
Zambujeira do Mar coastal town.
Vila Nova de Milfontes coastal town where the river Mira flows into the ocean.
Porto Covo, fishermen’s town right at the coast with nice coastline.
South:
Aljezur, medieval town.
Carrapeteira, cute small town close to beach.
Lagos, a mid-size old harbour town great for shopping.
Sagres, with impressive cliffs of the Cabo S. Vicente and the most southwestern point of the European mainland
Inland:
Monchique, famous for wild boar dishes and medronho.
Silves old Morish town with old castle and nice to have lunch in Café Ingles next to the castle with live music on Sundays.
Santa Clara, a massive man made lake in the middle of the alentejo
BEACHES
Local:
Praia de Odeceixe (1st price winning cliff beach) note on the left side there’s a nudist beach and on the Alentejo side (river side) you can take your dog for a walk. On the beach it’s forbidden for dogs.
North :
Praia do Carvalhal
Praia de Zambujeira do mar (1st price winning town beach)
Praias de Vila Nova de Milfontes and Porto Covo
South:
Praia Vale dos Homens (very quiet place to walk the dog in summer)
Praia Amoreira beach with river and restaurant.
Praia de Arrifana (surf beach) & de Monte Clerigo, both have restaurants on the beach
Carrapeteira - Praia Amado - great massive surf beach.
Bordeira beach – with dunes and fresh water as well.
Vila do Bispo beaches on the south coast between Lagos and Sagres, praia do Camilo, ponte da Piedade, Burgau, Salema, Figueira, Zavial and Ingrina
